These two gulls fought over a chip for about 10 minutes; there were plenty of other discarded chips around, but neither would give up for this very special chip! Whitby, 2015
The Long-Tailed Tit has an unusual nest, being oval in shape. It takes the birds about three weeks to build and has many layers. The nest photographed above was in a bush next to the carpark at the Attenborough Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire. I had to photograph from quite a distance in order not to disturb the birds and although the foreground is a bit blurry, I have included the photographs because of the unusual nest. The photograph in the centre shows a juvenile bird emerging from the nest; they generally spend 2-3 weeks in the nest and then it becomes too small for the chicks.
